Can you survive Karen?

No email to start. Allow the microphone and she picks up. After the call you say where the scorecard goes. One call per person; it is recorded and scored.

What a scored call looks like.

The coach scores six skills out of ten, quotes the rep's own words in the rationale, and names the one thing to fix before the next dial. This is a sample against Karen.

SAMPLE CALL · KAREN · 2:12HUNG UP
  1. Karen0:00

    “This had better be important.”

  2. Sam0:03

“Karen, Sam from Northwind. I know I'm an interruption. Twenty seconds on why I called, then you decide?”

  3. Karen0:09

    “Who gave you this number?”

  4. Sam0:11

“Your supplier page lists you for vendor onboarding. Three of your contracts renew in Q1, and that renewal crunch is the only reason I'm calling.”

A scripted sample. The calls inside the product are live, with a prospect who talks back.

What worked

Asked permission with a time box at 0:03 instead of “How are you today?”, which is what earned the next twenty seconds.

Fix this first

Value never got concrete. “We help with renewals” is a category, not an outcome. Name one number a procurement lead would recognise, then ask for Thursday.

You survived two minutes against a prospect who ends most calls in ten seconds. The opener and the reason for the call carried it. You lost her at the value line: she asked what you actually do, and the answer was a description, not a result. Fix that one sentence and this is a callback.

Every call a rep makes comes back like this, with the rationale quoting their own words. Call Karen and get yours in three minutes.

Three steps between a new rep and a booked meeting.

100 Dials is an AI cold call simulator for SDR teams. Reps dial realistic prospects built from their own target accounts, every call is scored on six skills, and managers see where the team struggles.

  1. Add who you're calling

Real accounts from this quarter's list, or one of six built-in personas and three boss fights. Pick a voice, add the pains and objections, and each one becomes a live prospect.

  2. Dial

A real, interruptible voice call. Level 1 is friendly. Level 3 tries to hang up on you. The prospect decides how it ends, and says why.

  3. Get coached, when you want it

Every call keeps its transcript, stats and outcome. Ask for the review and the coach scores six skills, tags every objection and names the one thing to change next time.

It gets harder. That is the point.

  1. LEVEL 01

    “Hi, this is Dana.”

    Warm-up

    Friendly, curious, low resistance

A prospect with time on their hands who is happy to talk. Use it to nail your opener, pitch and close without pressure.

  2. LEVEL 02

    “Dana speaking.”

    Inbound lead

Interested but busy and a little skeptical

They filled in a form last week and half remember why. Responsive to good questions, impatient with fluff, will push back on price and timing.

  3. LEVEL 03

    “Yeah?”

    Cold & resistant

    Realistic cold call. Challenges everything.

A senior buyer interrupted mid-task. Skeptical of the opener, tests the rep's credibility, tries to end the call early. The closest thing to a real dial.

Reps are nudged up a level after three calls averaging seven or better. Nothing is locked.

Then there's Karen.

“I don't take cold calls. Who gave you permission to ring this number?”

Nobody books her. Composure is the win, and the coach scores exactly that.

Three minutes, an email for the scorecard, no account needed.

Coach the pattern, not the call.

You do not have to listen to fifty calls to know what to fix. Every reviewed call feeds one view: the weakest skill across the team, and the objection the team keeps losing. Ten minutes in the next team meeting.

Agree, then ask what would make it worth reading. That question restarts discovery.
  2. 2
    Already have a solution
Ask what they use it for and what it does not cover. Never argue with the incumbent.
  3. 3
    No time right now
Ask for thirty seconds, not fifteen minutes. Earn the extension with a reason for the call that fits their role.
  4. 4
    Not the right person
Ask who owns the problem and what they would need to see. A referral is a win.
  5. 5
    Too expensive
Price came before value. Go back to the cost of the problem and a peer result.
How managers use it

Prospects that sound like your market, not like a chatbot.

Upload transcripts from Gong, Chorus, Apollo or your dialler. 100 Dials extracts how your buyers talk, the objections they actually raise and the phrasing they use, then puts it in the prospect's mouth. The coach grades against your playbook, not a generic one.

Why practice works

Built on what the research says about practice.

We didn't invent the idea that practice helps. We built the product around the parts the research says matter most.

Rehearsal carries over to the real thing

Across more than 600 studies, people trained in realistic simulations outperformed untrained peers, both in skill tests and in how they behaved on the job.

So we built it this way: Prospects push back the way real buyers do, so the call you practise is close to the call you'll make.

Cook et al., JAMA, 2011

Saying it beats reading it

Actively producing an answer from memory beats re-reading the material, and the benefit holds when people face new situations.

So we built it this way: Reps say the opener and the objection response out loud, to someone who answers back, instead of rereading the script.

Adesope, Trevisan & Sundararajan, Review of Educational Research, 2017

Feedback works when it's specific

Feedback improves performance on average. But in more than a third of cases it made things worse, mostly when it judged the person instead of the task.

So we built it this way: Every report scores six behaviours and quotes the rep's own words, so the feedback is about what was said, not about the rep.

Kluger & DeNisi, Psychological Bulletin, 1996

Practice doesn't replace live calls. The gains from sales training are real but fade without repetition, so 100 Dials is built for a few calls a week, not a one-off workshop. See the research
